The movie does Daniel justice. It's rarely condescending or exploitative, and it's just really fucking good. I think you could make a 6 hour documentary about Daniel and not run out of great stuff.
The director of the movie was at the screening and you could tell the film was a labor of love for him, not just a way to try and make a buck off a crazy musician.
I give it nine stars. number nine... number nine...

I don't really write on livejournal anymore, but sometimes I still look at my friends page. Most people on my friends list seem to be as inactive in livejournal land as I am, but i'm posting this on the off-chance that a few internet people i'm not in contact with any other way will see it.
The big news right now is that i'm training to run a marathon. Yeah. Seriously. And yes, i DO know how far 26.2 miles is. And yes, I do know that my BMI fits into the "obese" range. Nevertheless, I intend to do this thing. Here is the thing about the marathon. I'm doing it to raise money for AIDS project los angeles. I need to raise 3800 dollars by august 25, so i can use all the help i can get. To donate to my account you can follow to this link. To learn more about AIDS project Los Angeles, you can go to www.apla.org. Here is the succinct blurb from the aids marathon website: "AIDS Project Los Angeles provides food banks, transportation, home health care and other vital services - to help keep people alive until there's a cure."
Once again, click here to donate. Every teeny tiny bit takes me one step closer to my goal.
If you wish to make inter-contact with me, i'm on myspace. you should be able to find me.

Deerhoof rocked my world once again last night.
They just get better and better. They were way more rock and roll last night than any other time i've seen them. One of the dudes who usually plays guitar was playing bass. That was pretty awesome to hear deerhoof with traditional (sometimes funky, even) bass playing, although i missed the dual guitar interplay they normally have at their shows.
also, tamales are good.

I didn't know so many people were gonna be at my house.

That's only half of them. So I guess a movie really really is gonna be shot inside my house.
The album "tanglewood numbers" by silver jews is incredible. Their best yet. To me every new silver jews album is the best. They just keep getting better.
Cat power has a new one on Jan. 24, and it's gonna be real good i bet.

Peter from Paramount just called me today and said things are moving along well. He called our property owner and got their ok, and now all they have to so is "work out numbers and make sure everybody's happy."
Tomorrow people from their art department are coming over to take all kinds of measurements of the house. This is really exciting. It's interesting to me to get to see first-hand a little bit of how movies are made.
I meant to go to the library today to check out the book "freedom writers" that the movie is based on. Instead I went to goodwill and bought a shirt + 3 carl sagan videos. I also went to Target to buy a scale, but decided that I really shouldn't have one in the house. It sucks not to have one, because I can't really keep track of what is going on. I know my clothes are more loose, and that's nice, but I'm a person who likes numbers.
Is 25 too old to write in livejournal? Maybe I will get a blogspot. That seems more respectable. On the other hand, I write like a teenage girl, so I might as well live in their universe.

I started writing this is a story, but I can't.
Basically, the assistent location manager for the film "Freedom Writers," which will be starring Hillary Swank, just came to my house and said he wants to film the opening scene for the movie in my house. He has to have the director come over first, but it seems like he is really into using it. Basically they will move all our shit out of the house for a couple days, put us up in a hotel, and compensate us for our inconvenience. Sounds pretty bitchin', doesn't it?

1. Go into your livejournal archive 2. Find your 23rd post. 3. Find your 5th sentence (or closest to it.) 4. Post the text of your sentence in this post along with these instructions.
"it was overcast, with some small breaks in the clouds, and a bit windy"
right here is a link to the entry, which might interest meghan because the verb tenses don't agree.

I usually don't bother with the record bins at thrift stores here in Long Beach. I don't know if there are other people who beat me to the good records, or if long beachers never had good records. I've just never found much that was very exciting. Today, though, I was at goodwill and i saw a Tide box that I somehow KNEW would have something good in it. What did I find?

Oh yes. 4 Nina records. In years of looking in every thrift store record bin in Sacramento, and quite a few in Long Beach, I have never seen Nina Simone vinyl. None of these are collector quality, but i'm not a collector. I'm a music lover, and I love this shit.

I don't know what I'm going to do with all of these. On second thought, I'm going to give them to meghan to take to her capsaicin-addicted boss. This lady eats habaneros plain. yikes!

I can either sit here in my current state of relaxed bliss, zoning out to coltrane and reveling in the warmth of a full tummy, or I can return to work and get my hands all covered in chemicals made to kill things, rushing about making other people money. Well, dear diary, you know which one I'll choose. See you later, diary.

I don't know why, but my christmas Amaryllis decided it was time to grow another stalk and bloom again.
Taken this morning:

And this is my pride and joy. It's a Habanero Pepper plant in a hanging basket.

I can't seem to get supermarket-sized peppers, but boy are they HOT.

the Wit (60% dark, 39% spontaneous, 22% vulgar) | your humor style: CLEAN | COMPLEX | DARK
You like things edgy, subtle, and smart. I guess that means you're probably an intellectual, but don't take that to mean you're pretentious. You realize 'dumb' can be witty--after all isn't that 'the Simpsons' philosophy?--but rudeness for its own sake, 'gross-out' humor and most other things found in a fraternity leave you totally flat. I guess you just have a more cerebral approach than most. You have the perfect mindset for a joke writer or staff writer. Your sense of humor takes the most effort to appreciate, but it's also the best, in my opinion.
Also, you probably loved the Office. If you don't know what I'm talking about, check it out here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/theoffice/.
PEOPLE LIKE YOU: Jon Stewart - Woody Allen - Ricky Gervais | |
My test tracked 3 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender: | You scored higher than 69% on dark | | You scored higher than 54% on spontaneous | | You scored higher than 18% on vulgar |

Scotty died.
Of all the geeky things about me, the one that is most pure and geek-like is my everlasting love of the original star trek series, star trek: the next generation, and star trek: deep space nine.
This day, I mourn.
